There has been some discussion about the other island that we saw a couple seasons ago where the Hydra station was located. Mostly about why none of the survivors saw the island before and why we haven't seen it since. In Every Man For Himself Ben tells Sawyer that the island they are currently being held hostage on isn't the island they have been on since the crash. There's another island and Ben says it is roughly the same size as Alcatraz which is about a quarter mile by a quarter mile. Not that big in comparison. When we saw Rousseau's maps back in season 1 there are notations and drawings about a smaller island. In fact she notates Les Trois meaning The Three in French or three smaller islands. The produces have said one of those smaller islands was supposed to be The Hydra island. So how come we never saw it before or since? I argue that we did see it before, albeit in passing, and I offer this picture as proof of it's existence:
Top right corner there is what appears to be a small island off in the distance. Ana and Eko didn't notice it and quite frankly neither did any of us at the time. But that's all the evidence I have that it was always there. Since the time jumping began TPTB have said that the smaller Hydra island is also jumping along with the larger island. Now I know in the helicopter scene when the island disappeared we didn't see the smaller island. I argue that it was possible that from the perspective of the people on the helicopter (the same view we are treated to) there was no way they could have seen the smaller island from their point of view. Here is a reference map that has been put together and agreed upon by many LOST addicts to be the best representation of the island and many of it's focal points:
The freighter was parked out in the ocean somewhere off to the left and on the map you can see where the fuselage and the beach camp is located. The helicopter would have been approaching the island prior to it disappearing from the lower left quarter of the map and as you can see the Hydra is located on the opposite side of the map. So with that knowledge, would it have been possible for you to see the Hydra island from that point? I don't think so.

Juliette jokingly told Sawyer that the others were building a runway on the smaller island for the aliens to land. Maybe not for aliens but how about for the O6 when they return in an Ajira Airlines plane? Take a swig of this theory, swish it around and tell me how it goes down: Ben, knowing what would happen in the future, or possibly Jacob, had the others begin building the runway knowing that it was the way that the O6 would need to get back to the island? I guess we will find out soon enough.

No sir, you can't sell me that kettle of fish. I can see how, if you're on one side of the island, you wouldn't be able to see the other island. However, in the helicopter they had an aerial view and, before it "moved" you could see ocean all around the island for 360 degrees. As that photo you posted of Sawyer and Ben looking at the island, it is certainly close enough that it would've been seen from the air -- but all we see is ocean all around the island.
Also, that photo of Eko and Ana Lucia appears to me more like part of the same island curving around a la a lagoon -- which our island has been shown to have. No one can possibly expect me to believe that a bunch of crash survivors from the tail section would sit on an island -- by the beach, yet -- and not happen to notice that other island there. It's not like they had very much to do but stare out at the ocean -- at least until the Others started bopping them over the head and snatching 'em. No sir, that's just plain silly.
While I'm not saying that the other island isn't there, I would certainly think that it could've been established much better because as it now stands it don't appear to be dere at all. Only when it's convenient to the plot. TPTB need to address that issue before the series is over -- as to why nobody can see the other island most of the time but can other times. It could be solved very easily by saying the other island has got a magic mystery light refractor or something on it that "cloaks" the companion isle. There. 2 seconds and a plot hole is plugged. Where's my salary check, Disney?!?
You know, looking more closely at that map kindly provided actually clinches it, I think, that what's behind Ana Lucia and Eko in that photo is indeed part of the same island curving around a la a lagoon.
On the map where the Tail section is shown (and where Ana Lucia and Eko woulda been traipsing) is shown to be right below just such a lagoon that curves around to where it says the French camp is.
Truthfully, with all the time travelling and smoke monsters and dharma bunnies and Locke's Daddy being the original Sawyer -- there is nothing that I would find harder to believe than that Ana Lucia, Eko and all the other tailies would have "failed to notice" an island off the coast of their own island. I have no trouble suspending disbelief for everything else that's happened in the series but THAT would just be SILLY!
Well then how about since the main island was cloaked before the failsafe key was turned and they couldn't be seen is it safe to say they couldn't see anything off of the island? Would that explain the other island not being able to be spotted? Especially since we didn't see the other island until after Desmond turned the key? Does that help any?
NOTHING helps me that DOESN'T provide me with licorice!!!!!
There are certain life rules and that's one of 'em!
