Musical Interlude

With a week to kill I thought it was a good time to drag out an old time honored tradition to use the video musical montage as filler. Don't know how many more of these we will need, enjoy.

The Last Recruit

"Locke" sits down on a rock while Jack wants to stand up. I don't think Jack is going to intimidate the MIB.

Our story picks up right where it left off last week. The Lockeness monster greets Jack and says they have some catching up to do. Hurley is happy to let Jack do the talking. So right after Hurley negotiated a “no weapons” clause between the two groups Jack takes a rifle to the palaver? OK. Jack is surprised how much Smokie looks like John Locke but he says what is bothering him is that he has no idea what the MIB is. Lockeness says that Jack actually does. Jack asks “Why Locke?”. MIB tells him that Locke was stupid and got himself killed and then Jack brought his body back to the island. We find out that Locke did indeed have to be dead in order for Smokie to take his form. We then find out that it was the MIB taking the form of Christian as well. He says that all he was doing was trying to help Jack and the rest of the survivors by leading Jack to water so they could leave the island. Lockeness goes on to explain that Jacob had trapped them on the island but now that Jacob is dead they are free to leave the island. The MIB tells Jack that he was "trapped" on the island before the plane crash. Lockeness finishes their little talk by saying that John Locke wasn’t a “believer” but was a "sucker".

A smile or not a smile?

Locke is in an ambulance being taken to the hospital. They arrive at the same time as the ambulance carrying Sun does. Sun sees Locke on the gurney next to her and becomes frightened. She says “that’s him” which tells us that ATL Sun has had some flashes of the island time line. As the scene ends some say that a small smile creeps across Locke’s face. Wasn’t sure if I saw it or not. If so then that could mean Locke has also had some flashes, but why would he be smiling?

Claire says she is following Jack and "Locke" because Jack is her brother. Lockeness lets them talk in private. Claire says she is happy to see Jack. She says it means a lot that Jack is “coming with us” as she never had much family. Jack says he hasn’t decided if he is going with them. Claire says he decided the moment he let him talk so weather he likes it or not “you’re with him now”. That is similar to what Dogan said to Sayid and what the MIB said to Richard about not letting Jacob and the MIB talk to them. Something about these guys just talking to you is enough to reel you in and place you under their control. So we had the Jack and Claire reunion we waited a long time for. A little anticlimactic I thought.

Apparently the island has magical sunrises as it is now daylight when Sawyer tells Hurley about the sub and then tells him that Sayid isn’t going with them because he has gone over to the dark side. Since Hurley has at least one more Star Wars movie under his belt he tries to tell Sawyer that people can be turned back from the dark side. “What about Anakin?” which refers to Anakin Skywalker going to the dark side at the end of the last Star Wars installment. Lockeness, Jack, and Claire make it back to camp. Things feel a bit uneasy even though the Lockeness monster says it’s nice to have everyone back together again.

I'm a cop, you're a fugitive. It wouldn't work out but damn we look good in black don't we?

At the police station Detective Ford tells Kate that she doesn’t look like the murdering kind. She says that she is not a murderer. James asks her if she remembers him from the airport and Kate says she does. He steals a Humphrey Bogart line as his “Of all the cars in LA you had to crash into mine.” comment sounded a little like Rick’s quote about all of the gin joints in the world in the movie Casablanca. Kate asks him if he is hitting on her. He says that a cop and a fugitive could never have a relationship but we know in the OTL Kate actually did marry a cop. Oh, but that didn’t work out either did it? Kate asks him why he didn’t arrest her at LAX. He claims he didn’t see the handcuffs. Kate guesses that he didn’t arrest her because he didn’t want anyone to know he was in Australia. From the look on his face I would say she was right. Miles pull James out of the uncomfortable situation to tell him about the murders at the restaurant. Keamy was included with the dead so I guess that officially ends the “steamy” Keamy scenes. Miles tells James that surveillance cameras got pictures of the “perp” leaving the scene. Sayid is seen on the screen and James tells Miles that he is their “bad guy“.

The New John Locke now with 50% bigger explosions happening behind him

Kate sits next to Jack and comments that Sayid (who looked to be sharing a mango with a Klingon) seems different. Jack says they are all different. Jack tells Kate that Lockeness said in order to leave they all had to be together. Jack is not sure if he believes him. Zoe shows up at their camp and asks to see whoever is in charge. Sawyer remarks that Zoe is Widmore’s number 2. She tells Lockeness that she wants back what he took. He acts like he doesn’t know what she means. Zoe takes out a radio and tells whoever is on the other end to show them what they are capable of. An artillery shell lands nearby and she tells MIB that he has until nightfall to return what they took or the next shell won’t miss. She gives Lockeness the radio and tells him to tell her when they can pick him up. “Locke” uses the big stick he carved last episode (he said it was going to have a use eventually) to smash the radio. “Here we go.”

Claire has an appointment at an adoption agency on the 15th floor. Desmond walks up and introduces himself. She tells Desmond that he was right that she is having a boy. Desmond tells Claire that she should have legal representation with her. She says she doesn’t have money for a lawyer. Desmond says that his lawyer owes him a favor and it won’t cost Claire anything. Did you guess the lawyer would be Ilana? Did you notice that this version of Ilana doesn’t have an accent? After Desmond introduces Claire; Ilana says that they have been looking for Claire. Ilana says she needs to talk to Claire in private.

Lockeness tells the group that they are being pressured by Widmore’s group and they are headed to Hydra island to the Ajira plane. He tells Sawyer to go to a boat he has docked near the island. He gives him a map and shows him where he is to sail it so he can meet back up with them. Sawyer is allowed to take Kate with him.

Sawyer tells Jack about his deal with Widmore. He tells Jack to take Sun, Hugo, and Lapidus and to meet Kate and him at the old dock. He gives Jack the map and Jack asks him about Sayid and Claire. Sawyer tells Jack that Sayid is a zombie and Claire is nuts. Sawyer tells Jack that Claire tried to kill Kate and he isn’t letting it happen again.

Lockeness tells Sayid to kill Desmond. He asks Sayid if it will be a problem for him to do it. Sayid says no. “Locke” asks if Sayid still wants what he asked for. Sayid says he does. Sayid goes to the well and Desmond asks him what “Locke” promised him. Desmond tells Sayid that if he is going to kill him in cold blood he deserves to know what Sayid gets in return. How does Desmond know that “Locke’s” recruitment is based on promises? Sayid says he is getting back the woman he loved. Sayid says that the woman is dead and that “Locke” was able to bring him back from the dead so he thinks he could bring her back as well. Desmond asks Sayid what he will tell her when she asks him what he did to be with her again.

ATL Sayid goes back to Nadia’s home and tells her he “took care of it” but he has to leave and he can never come back again. Miles knocks at the door and Nadia asks Sayid what he did. Sayid tells her to stall them. As Miles comes in the front door Sayid goes out the back door but James Ford is waiting for him. Sayid is tripped up with a simple garden hose and easily subdued by James who arrests him.

Watch the beginning of the next scene carefully as it seems Sawyer has forgotten some of his manners when he lets a palm frond just hit Kate right in the face as they exit the jungle. Nice job. The boat Lockeness talked about is docked just off shore. Kate asks if it is a good idea to meet up with “Locke”. Sawyer says it’s not a good idea which is why they aren’t doing it. He tells her his plan which includes the pilot who looks like he stepped out of a Burt Reynolds movie. Kate asks why Claire wasn’t mentioned. He says that she isn’t coming because the Claire that Kate came back for doesn’t exist anymore. Kate says that she promised she would bring her back. Sawyer says that this was before she started drinking “Locke’s” Kool-Aid. He says Claire is dangerous and shouldn’t be around Aaron. Sawyer’s “drinking the Kool-Aid” line refers to the Jonestown massacre of 1978. Cult leader Jim Jones made his followers drink cyanide laced Kool-Aid in a mass suicide.

We have a scene of yet another group of people (some claim there are 23 “Locke” followers making the trek) walking through the jungle on their way to somewhere in order to do something. Jack asks Claire how long she has been with “Locke”. She says ever since Jack and the rest of them left. She says she trusts him because he is the only one who didn’t abandon her. Lockeness asks Sun if she has seen Sayid. She doesn’t answer him and he asks about the silent treatment. Sun writes on her pad that he did this to her. He claims he didn’t do anything to her. “Locke” tells the group to go on and that he is going to double back to make sure nobody was left behind. Jack sees this as his chance to gather the few people together that Sawyer told him to. Hurley says that they should be going along with Sawyer’s plan and Jack tells him that this is Sawyer’s plan. (A little tip to Jack here: perhaps when the crazy blond chick tells you she has abandonment issues a few seconds after hearing this might not be a good time to actually abandon her. Again.) As Jack, Hurley, Sun, and Frank make their getaway Claire sees them go. She looks a little pissed. Wow, color me surprised!

“Locke” finds Sayid in the jungle and asks where he has been. Sayid says he did what he asked him to do. Sayid says that after shooting an unarmed man he needed a few minutes to himself. Sayid says that “Locke” can go check if he wants. Lockeness says they have a boat to catch. The look on the face of Sayid tells me that Desmond is somewhere on the island alive and I’m willing to bet he’s not even down in that well anymore.

Jack and his group find the dock. Frank comments that they are going to sail away on the boat. Sawyer says they can’t unless they have a bearing. He says the Dharma people always used to come and go from the island in a sub. Claire shows up with her rifle and asks them where they are going. Kate calms her down by telling her that she is going to take Claire back to Aaron. Sawyer protests but Kate says that if Claire doesn’t go then neither does she. (Why isn’t Kate’s shirt still wet from her swim out to the boat? I think we got cheated out of wet t-shit scene here.) Kate tells Claire that “Locke” is not “one of us”. Claire gets on the boat and allows Kate to take her rifle. Claire says that when “he” finds out they are gone he is going to be angry.

Jack and David go into the same building we saw Claire and Desmond in earlier. Jack signs in (but David doesn’t because he is the only person in this reality that actually “belongs” there?) at the desk. Jack and David seem to have bettered their relationship since the last time we saw them. David actually wants to be with his father now it would seem as Jack talks to David’s mother on the phone. Who the hell is his mother? Sara? Ana Lucia? Juliette? Will we ever find out? Does it even matter? Ilana asks Jack if he believes in fate and then introduces him to Claire. Jack asks how she knew his father and she says Christian was her father too. Jack has a “WTF?” moment and then takes a phone call. He says they will have to reschedule because he has to go to the hospital to deal with an emergency.

Sawyer really is the captain of a ship now like he told Horace three years ago (island time) he was. The boat is the “Elizabeth” which belongs to Desmond. Frank asks Sawyer what their plan is. Sawyer calls him “Chesty” and tells him that they are going to cozy up to Widmore and when they get the chance they will put a gun into someone’s face and make them take them off of the island in the sub. Frank goes down below deck to get something to eat. Sawyer asks Kate to take the wheel as he goes to talk to Jack. Kate tells him to be nice.

Sawyer tells Jack he didn’t think he would show up since taking orders isn’t Jack’s strong suit. Jack says that leaving the island doesn’t feel right. He tells Sawyer that the last time he left it felt like a part of him was missing. Sawyer, not knowing Jack had an addiction to pills after he left the island, tells Jack that there are pills for that. Jack says they were brought there because they were supposed to do something. He says that if “that thing” wants them to leave maybe it’s because it is afraid what would happen if they stayed. Sawyer gives Jack a choice; either Jack is with them and they are getting off of the island or he can get off of the boat. Jack says that leaving is a mistake and that part of Sawyer knows it is too. Jack says that the island isn’t done with them yet. Sawyer says that he is done with the island. Sawyer tells Jack to take a leap of faith and to get off of his damn boat. Jack tells Sawyer that he is sorry for getting Juliette killed. Jack jumps off of the boat in a scene that reminded me of two others. First it reminded me of the last time Jack and Locke talked at the Orchid station only this time Jack was on the other side of the argument. Then Jack’s jump from the boat reminded me of when Sawyer jumped out of the helicopter. Kate asks Sawyer what he said to Jack. He says Jack changed his mind. Kate says they have to go back for him. Sawyer says he is done going back.

Sun wakes up in the hospital with Jin by her side. Jin says she is going to be okay. The even better news is the baby is going to be fine as well. Jin says that it is all over and they are all going to be OK. Is this a prophetic statement or one that will turn out to be very ironic?

Jack and David walk down the halls of the hospital together. They walk the same way. Jack says he didn’t know about Claire and says that Christian kept a lot of secrets. David asks if that is where Jack gets it. Jack laughs and says probably. Jack goes to perform surgery and David wishes him luck. Jack washes up and the other surgeon tells him that the victim was already paralyzed before the accident. Jack says the neural sac was obliterated and the woman says that is why they called him in. Jack says “I got this.” and goes into the operating room. Before Jack begins the surgery he looks into the mirror and sees John Locke’s face reflected back at him. He says he thinks he knows the guy. This scene looked a little like when Jack was forced to perform surgery on Ben. Thinking back on it do you remember what Ben said to Jack then? “See you on the other side.” Hmmmm.

Jack swims back to shore and Lockeness is there and remarks it is a nice day for a swim. “Locke” asks if Sawyer took his boat. He even says it in a “I should have known” tone of voice. Jack says he did (way to cover up for your friends there Doc). “Locke” seems surprised that Jack told him the truth but it makes Jack look loyal to Lockeness.

Over on Hydra island, Sawyer and his group wade onto shore. There is a welcoming party waiting for them at the beach. Zoe tells them all to lower their weapons because she knows Sawyer. Zoe tells someone on the other end of the radio to turn off the fence. Jin walks up and we have the Jin and Sun reunion we have been waiting for. I got chills on this one so it was a nice payoff. If the scene wasn’t touching enough for you then Sun gets her ability to speak English back. In case you didn’t notice Frank is there to point it out. It’s getting easy to see who is going to be killed off soon, isn’t it? Sun tells Jin that she never stopped looking for him. He tells her they will never be apart again. Even if it is for just a few minutes, everything seems well in Jin and Sun’s life in both realities. After all of the promises made by different people of getting her back to her husband it turns out it is Sawyer who actually is able to finish the job. Zoe says “I understand Charles.” and then Widmore’s group point their weapons back onto Sawyer and the rest. She tells them to put their hands up and to get down onto their knees. Sawyer says that they had a deal. Zoe tells him that the deal is off. Zoe gives the order into the radio to fire when ready.

Notice that the explosion is not enough to even jolt the MIB

Over on the main island Jack hears the artillery shell coming and yells for everyone to get down. The explosion throws Jack through the air. What the hell landed next to his head? I think it was body pieces. Jack’s hearing is muffled like Charlies was back when Eko set off dynamite in the Swan hatch. Lockeness rescues Jack and carries him to safety. “Locke” asks Jack if he is alright and tells him that everything will be OK because he is with him now. In the ATL Jack is saving Locke’s life as “Locke” is saving Jack on the island. Before the episode crashes to black Jack seems to pass out. Maybe the island has something to show Jack. Even though there is no episode next week be sure to check back here before then as you never know what might be happening here at the DAG Project.

LOST At Birth

Here at the DAG Project we search the inter webs to find the best stuff there is floating around that may pertains (no matter how flimsy the connection) to LOST . Here we have a separated at birth for ya:

That's our very own lovable Benjamin "Bug-Eyed Bastard" Linus on the right. The man on the left is General Joseph Hooker of the United States Army. He fought in the Civil War.

Everybody Loves Hugo

For over five years we have watched the story of LOST unfold. For the most part we know what parts are played by who. Jack has been the hero, the man of science and lately, the man of faith. Sawyer has been the villain, the antihero, and the hero. He plays Lancelot to Jack’s Arthur and in turn Kate’s Guinevere. We have the romantic parts played by Sun and Jin as well as Desmond and Penny. Sayid is the man of action but of few words. Hurley has been a voice for the viewers. Remember him freaking out on Danielle “I want some freaking answers!”? He was speaking for us. Hurley is also the heart and soul of the show. He builds golf courses because people need some good news sometimes. He believed unwavering in getting that old blue Dharma van started so it would give Charlie something to think about other than dying. He’s also the islands resident ghost whisperer and that is a double edged sword for him at times. One thing is for sure though, not Everybody Loves Hugo as the episode would have us believe. Although, how can ya not?

As the episode began we heard the familiar voice of Pierre Chang talking about Hugo Reyes. Some people said it felt like they were watching a memorial service but it quickly turned out to be a tribute. Hugo Reyes: Man of the Year. That's Jorge Garcia's Chihuahua Nunu playing the part of Hurley's dog. After the event Hurley walks outside with his mother. The award was a dinosaur and it made me recall back to when Hurley remarked that maybe the smoke monster was a dinosaur. I wonder where Hurley's father is. Did he not come back to see his son after he won the lottery. Maybe he did and along with his mother they sent him packing. Either way I missed seeing Cheech as Hurley's dad one more time. Hurley’s mom says that she has set him up on a blind date with Grandpa Tito’s neighbors’ daughter Rosalita.

On the island Hurley places a fresh flower onto Libby's' grave. As he talks to Libby hear the emotion in his voice as he tells Libby it would be nice if she came to see him like the others do. Ilana tells him that she is going to the Black Rock to get some dynamite. She asks Hurley about Libby's' grave and hear and feel the emotion in his voice as he tells Ilana about the date with Libby that never happened and that Libby was murdered. The whispers kick in as Michael appears. Hurley asks him why he is there and Michael tell him he is there to stop him from getting everyone killed.

Hurley asks Michael why he should trust him since he murdered Ana Lucia and Libby. Michael says that doesn’t matter right now what does matter is him stopping Hurley from blowing up the Ajira plane. Michael says that will get a lot of people killed. Michael says that people are starting to listen to Hurley. Jack shows up and asks Hurley who he is talking to. Hurley says nobody as we can only guess that Michael had left by then. At this point though, why not just tell Jack? Jack tells Hurley that it's time for them to go.

Probably the only thing more embarrassing than having your mother set you up on a blind date is having said blind date stand you up. Hurley checks out
Spanish Johnny’s menu as Libby walks up and says hello to Hurley. Like Hurley, I too thought she was his blind date. Hurley asks her how she knows him and she tells him that he is going to think she is crazy. Libby talks about being soul mates and says that he doesn’t remember her. Dr. Brooks comes over and breaks up their discussion. Brooks takes Libby outside and puts her into a van from Santa Rosa Mental Hospital. Hurley waves and watches her leave. So it would appear we continue the theme of the people who have died in the OTL are “in the loop” in the ATL and are somewhat aware of the OTL.

Ilana returns from the Black Rock with dynamite. Hurley says he doesn’t think it's a good idea. Hurley says that blowing up the plane will make “that thing” mad at them and then they will be stuck there with it. Good point. Ilana says that this is what she has trained her entire life for; protecting all of the candidates. Really? This is what you trained for? Because if it is your entire life has been for nothing Ilana, especially considering you just Arzt-ed yourself. Nice job. Not what I was expecting and I think she deserved more than what she got from TPTB. Turns out she was just a disposable character after all. I guess the good part is nobody got any Ilana on them this time.

Sawyer, still relegated to being the one in the group with the pestering questions, asks UnLocke what they are going to do next and why they are just sitting there doing nothing. Unlocke tells him not to confuse doing nothing with waiting. Unlocke goes on to tell Kate that they needed to get everyone together for them to get back to the island and it works the same way for them to get off of the island. He says that they need to get Hurley, Jack, and Sun with them before they can “get off of this godforsaken rock”. These are the exact words that Sawyer used so it isn’t a coincidence that we hear them again now. Sayid shows up and ignores Sawyer who asks him where he has been. Sayid asks if he can speak to Unlocke privately.

The two walk off and Unlocke asks Sayid if Widmore saw him. Sayid says he didn’t but his people did. Unlocke asks Sayid if he killed them. Sayid explains that there was no point killing them because he had what he came for. UnLocke asks if he found out what was locked away on the sub. Sayid says he did and pulls a palm frond back to reveal Desmond who is tied to a tree.

While going through some of Ilana’s personal things Hurley finds the bag of Jacob's ashes. Richard says they need to get more dynamite or else Ilana died for nothing. Jack says maybe she died to tell them to stay the hell away from dynamite. Good point Jack. Hurley says that he thinks Richard is right. Jack just gives Hurley a look and Hurley asks Jack to trust him. They all leave the beach and head out to the Black Rock.

Hurley gets a bucket of chicken like some people get a bag of heroin. Desmond comes in and sees him. After last week Desmond should already know Hurley was on flight 815 and he is one of people he needs to “
show something” to. Hurley says that he eats when he is depressed and Desmond laughs and asks “What’s her name?”. Desmond tells Hurley that all women are a little crazy. Hurley tells Desmond about Libby and what she said at the Mexican restaurant. Desmond asked him if he believed Libby. Hurley says he did. Desmond puts Hurley back onto Libby's trail to get answers. Desmond’s order is ready and it was order number 42, of course. Besides being one of the numbers, 42 is also the answer to Life, the Universe, and Everything in the Hitchhikers’ Guide To The Galaxy. Desmond tells Hurley it was nice bumping into him and then leaves. We know that their meeting wasn’t an accident. Desmond is like Jacob now in this reality. He’s planting seeds and recruiting people. He knows the rules and although not able to directly interfere, he is pointing people in the right direction.

Unlocke apologizes to Desmond for Sayid tying him up. Desmond tells Unlocke he has nowhere to run. Remember back when Desmond was running from the hatch Jack said Desmond had nowhere to run to. At the time Desmond said he didn’t know but he just wanted to get as far away from the hatch as possible. Desmond tells Unlocke that he was kidnapped by Widmore and brought back to the island. Sayid confirms that Desmond was being held under armed guard. Des goes on to tell him about the electromagnetic experiments he was put through. Unlocke had an interesting look on his face when Desmond was telling him about this. He asks Desmond if he knows who he is. Desmond says of course and Unlocke has an “
Oh, really?” look on his face. Then Desmond says “You’re John Locke.” which makes the look change. This time his face seems to say “That’s not what I wanted to hear.”. So does Desmond know who he really is or does he not know about the MIB? I think Desmond knows this isn’t really John Locke. Unlocke tells Sayid to go back to their camp. He says that Desmond is going to take a walk with him. Unlocke tells Desmond that there is something he wants to show him. Notice that Desmond accepts the hand of Unlocke when he offers it to Desmond. Don’t know if that means anything but it could. There has been a pattern of them showing us who has taken the MIB's hand and who has not.

As Richard and the rest of his group make their way to the Black Rock, Ben comments that Ilana died because the island was done with her. Ben adds he wonders what will happen to the rest of them when the island is done with them. Richard tells the group that he will go alone to get the dynamite. He notices that Hurley is missing. Hurley said he was pretty spry back in
Catch 22, guess he was right as he somehow made it to the Black Rock before the rest of the group without them seeing him do it. Hurley comes running from the Black Rock and shouts for them all to “RUN!”. The Black Rock explodes and unlike the title of the episode would have you believe, at this point Richard does not love Hugo. Hurley says he blew up the Black Rock to protect them all. In Exodus it was Hurley trying to stop Locke from blowing up the hatch. After Locke did Hurley asked him why he did that. This time Hurley is the one blowing up something and being asked “Why did you do that?”.

Jack tries to calm down Richard as he continues to freak out about Hurley blowing up the Black Rock. Hurley tells Miles that Michael told him to blow up the slave ship. Miles asks who Michael is (Miles would know him as Kevin Johnson) and Hurley tells him that Michael is one of the dead people that show up every now and then to yell at him. Hurley says it happens fairly often. Hurley goes on to tell Miles that dead people are more reliable than the living ones.

Hurley goes back to Santa Rosa and asks Dr. Brooks if he can see Libby. The familiar island picture is in the office as Brooks tells Hurley that Libby has issues with reality. He says that seeing Hurley might confuse her. Hurley pulls out his checkbook and it would appear that money can buy you love. Or at least it can buy you a face to face talk with love in the rec room. We see Connect Four being played and whatever is on that blackboard I could wonder about for days but there’s not enough time left so we will just move on. Libby comes into the room and asks Hurley if he remembered her. He says he didn’t but wants to know where he is supposed to know her from. Libby says that he won’t believe her. He says “
try me". She tells him that a few weeks ago she was watching television and she saw his commercial. She says that as soon as she saw him the memories started. She says that the memories are from a different life. She tells him about them being on the island together after a plane crash. She says that when she went to Santa Rosa it felt like she had been there before as well. She thinks she remembers Hurley from there as well. Hurley says he wishes he could remember her but he still doesn’t. He points out he has never been in a mental institute. You can tell he really does want to remember Libby though and the relationship she is talking about. Hurley asks Libby if she can get a day pass so they can go out. She says she can leave whenever she wants because she is there voluntarily. Libby asks Hurley if he is asking her out on a date. Hurley says he is and she says she would love that.

While they walk through the jungle, Unlocke asks Desmond about being stuck in the hatch. Unlocke says that if he didn’t know better he would think the island had it out for Desmond. Desmond says that he is nobody special and that the island has it in for all of them. Unlocke sees the boy in the jungle again. Desmond can see him too and the boy is a little older that the last time we saw him and has brown hair instead of blond. It is the same actor playing both parts I can tell you that. Desmond asks Unlocke who the boy is and if Unlocke knows him. Unlocke gets angry and tells Desmond to ignore him. The boy smirks and walks away. It seems like he accomplished whatever he was trying to do. So is this the same boy that we saw with blond hair or is he a twin? Perhaps a Bad Twin. Is he the other half of the same entity?

The Black Rock continues to burn as Richard asks Ben if there are grenades back at the Dharma barracks. Ben says there is so Richard says that is where they are headed next. Richard says he is ready to hear Jack’s plan if he has a better one than blowing up the Ajira plane. Hurley says what they should do is go talk to Locke. Hurley says it’s Jacobs idea. Richard calls Hurley’s bluff and tells him to ask Jacob what the island is. He knows Jacob isn’t there because Jacob doesn’t tell people what to do. Hurley approaches Richard and says he doesn’t have to prove anything to him. He says that he has a choice between going with him to see Locke or to go and blow up more stuff. Richard again tells them they cannot allow “
that thing” to leave the island or it’s all over. Richard asks who is going with him. Ben joins him and Miles does as well saying he saw Unlocke in action and it’s not interested in talking. Jack, Frank, and Sun stay with Hurley. Richard tells them to stay out of their way. Jack tells Hurley that they should go talk to Locke if that is what Jacob says they are supposed to do. Hurley looks worried as his eyes are flying all around looking pretty shifty.

As Hurley leads the group through the jungle Sun writes on her pad since she still cannot speak English. She asks Frank if they made the wrong decision. Frank says “Probably.”. That’s the extent of their parts in this episode. Thanks for showing up. Hurley asks Jack what they should say to Locke when they see him. Hurley asks how do you break the ice with the smoke monster. Nice time to be having second thoughts! Jack says that Unlocke will probably do most of the talking so it won’t matter. Hurley says that he might just kill them all. Hurley tells Jack he didn’t talk to Jacob back at the Black Rock and he only said that so they would listen to him. Jack says he knows. Hurley asks Jack why he came with him. What Jack says next is probably the most UN-Jack thing I have ever heard him say. He tells Hurley that ever since he got Juliette killed (took a lot just for him to admit that) all he has wanted to do is “fix it” but he can’t ever “fix it”. He says it has been hard for him to just sit back and wait to be told what to do. That just might be the point though he says. Jack admits that maybe he is supposed to let go. Hurley confuses things a little by asking Jack what if him letting go is what ends up getting them all killed. Jack says Hurley asked him to trust him so this is him trusting Hurley. Hurley tells Jack he had no idea where he is going. Remember back to a time where Hurley was playing HORSE with Jack at Santa Rosa. Hurley told Jack that he should have trusted him and went with him instead of going with Locke. Here the rolls were reversed. Jack chose to go with Hurley as Jack was able to put his trust in Hurley. Complete trust. Having been able to “let go” Jack is now fully a Man of Faith. We hear the whispers again and Hurley says he thinks he knows what they are now. He tells the rest of the group to wait as he goes off into the jungle.

Michael shows up again and Hurley asks him if he is stuck on the island. Michael says he is because of what he did to Ana Lucia and Libby. It turns out that the whispers are people like Michael who are stuck on the island and can’t move on. Stuck on the island and can’t move on? I thought the island
wasn’t purgatory. Sure sounds like it to me, at least for the people that are the whispers. The whispers have been one of the biggest mysteries of the show and here we got the cliff notes version on what they are. Seems kind of weak to me. Maybe there will be more later on about them but for now color me disappointed. Hurley asks if Michael knows where Locke is and Michael shows him a light in the jungle where Locke’s campsite is. Michael tells Hurley not to get himself killed. He also tells Hurley that if he ever sees Libby again to tell her he is very sorry. You can feel the pain in Michael’s voice as he says this. Not to be outdone, listen to the emotions in Hurley’s voice as he tells Michael he will.

Back on the beach in the ATL Hurley spreads out a blanket.
"Everybody loves cheese, right?", Hurley asks as he makes small talk. Then he asks Libby if something is wrong. She says that it’s not wrong, just “off”. Libby says that this all feels familiar, like the date they never had. They each ask the other why they are there. Libby says that she is there because she wants to be with him because she likes him. Hurley says she only likes him because she is delusional. Libby leans over and gives Hurley a kiss which brings the memories; or maybe passes them onto him. Hurley tells Libby he is starting to remember stuff. He tells Libby he doesn’t think she is crazy. When Hurley is talking to Libby he refers to the memories Libby has as being from bizzaro world. In DC comics there is a Bizzaro World in Superman comics where everyone from our reality is also in that reality. The difference being everything is exactly opposite as it is in our world. Sort of like a mirror reflection of our world. Through a mirror darkly indeed. As the camera pulls back we see Desmond is watching all of this play out. Appearing satisfied with what he sees, he drives off.

Unlocke and Des arrive at a well. Unlocke says that it is very old, so old in fact that the people that dug it did so by hand. They dug wells because years ago that spot made compass needles spin. In order to get answers they dug but they never got the answers they were looking for. Unlocke tells Des that Widmore only wants power. Desmond asks if that is why he wanted Desmond to see the well. Unlocke asks Desmond why he is not afraid. He says that Desmond is out there with him alone and not another person knows he is there but yet he is not afraid. Desmond says there is no point in being afraid. With that Unlocke pushes Desmond down the well. Somebody call Lassie, Timmy’s fallen into the well. Or how about Vincent? Is this the same well that Locke fell down before he turned the frozen donkey wheel or is this a different one. Unlocke did say there were other wells on the island. This scene almost had a “Man Behind The Curtain” feeling to it for me. Unlocke leaves Desmond in the well for dead almost like Ben did to Locke in the Dharma pit after he shot him. It was around this point that I thought that this all seemed to be pretty violent considering this was a Hurley episode.

Unlocke gets back to his camp and tells Sayid that they don’t have to worry about Desmond anymore. Unlocke tells Sawyer that he went for a walk and faster than you can say “Son of a bitch.”, Hurley walks into their camp. Unlocke greets Hurley who tells him that he doesn’t know who he is or what he wants but they need to talk. Hurley says he has people with him and they all have weapons. Hurley doesn’t want anyone to get hurt, or killed, he adds. Hurley seems to be negotiating a truce. Unlocke accepts and offers Hurley his knife in good faith. He tells Hurley that he has his word. Hurley tells the rest of the group to come out as Frank, Sun, and Jack come out of the jungle. Jack and Kate exchange quick smiles as Unlocke says “
Hello Jack.” the way we have heard John Locke say it dozens of times before. Jack looks angry at just hearing the voice and then looks surprised to see John Locke standing in front of him alive and well. So Unlocke was right when he told Sawyer he was waiting. Hurley just brought himself and the other two people Unlocke needed right into his camp.

Desmond watches Locke wheel down the sidewalk outside of the school where Locke is a substitute teacher. Ben approaches and asks Desmond what he is doing and if he has a child that goes to the school. Desmond says he is checking out schools and that this one could be a possibility for his son to go to. Desmond is very distracted as he is trying to watch Locke at the same time as having a conversation with Ben. Ben quickly asks Desmond what his sons name is and ATL Desmond is obviously blending memories very well from the OTL Desmond as he quickly says his sons name is Charlie. Ben says that it is a wonderful school and tells Desmond to have a good day. Desmond tells Ben it was nice talking to him and raises the car window. I could tell as soon as Desmond pulled away fast that he was going to hit John Locke with his car. I didn’t know he was going to hit him that damn hard though. Holy hell! So is his thinking that he wants Locke to have a near death experience in order to remember his other life? As Locke rolls over and Ben is talking to him does it seem that Locke already has had some flashes? Is is possible he has? If so then did he see flashes of Ben Linus killing him? Perhaps he saw the same Ben Linus who, in this reality, is running to his rescue telling people to call 911.

So where does the ending of this episode take us? It takes us to the hospital with John Locke and I am willing to bet Jack will be his doctor. It looks like next week is a Jack episode. So will he be able to “fix” Locke? One thing for sure is after seeing each other on the island this week we are in for some intense moments between them on the island next week. Perhaps we will see Jack try to “fix” Locke in both realities. Maybe in the ATL Jack and Locke will have a moment of clarity where they share memories from the island. Whatever is going on in the ATL will definitely have an impact on the island. Just how it will effect it and how much of an impact it will have remains to be seen. We now know that Unlocke is definitely the bad guy. I can’t allow him to shove Desmond down a well and leave him for dead and not think he is the bad guy. Jacob, however, isn’t off the hook either. What about poor Ilana? She looked up to Jacob as a father and this is how he treats her? He puts her on the island to get blown up? He uses people to get what he wants but when he is done with them he just lets them die. Seems like when Ben says the island was done with her maybe a more correct thing to say would be that Jacob was done with her. Perhaps the biggest question asked this week was made by Ben. What does happen to us when the island is done with us? I guess I will have to start another blog when that happens. Anybody think that new show “Happy Town” will need recaps?

Oceanic 815

So there has been some discussion that there is a definite clue as to the fact that the ATL isn't supposed to be. Check out this picture:

See the Oceanic 815 flight info. The status of the flight is blank. Why? Is it because the flight wasn't supposed to arrive. The time line must still be wavering in flux. The clue was right there in front of us but we were too focused on the mirror reflection theme to notice it. Could this be a clue or is it just an error? What do some of you think? Credit goes to Erika over at http://www.longlivelocke.blogspot.com/ for catching this. Nice one.

Happily Ever After

Happily Ever After is a stock phrase used in Fairy Tales to denote that the story has a happy ending. LOST is, in a way, a modern fairy tale. It’s a fable of sort in that it has enchantments or magical elements in the story. It is a work of fiction but it also contains some seeds of truth as well as fact. Will our fairy tale have a happy ending? I think that is still up in the air. Happily Ever After is the shortened version of “And they lived happily ever after.” but even that sentence is a shortened version of the original Arabic line that Happily Ever After is based on. The original line reads: “and they lived happily until there came for them the One Who Destroys all Happiness”. That’s death, which trumps everything else.

A happy ending makes the difference between whether our story is to be a melodrama or a tragedy. The problem lies in that not everyone agrees to what makes a happy ending. An ending can be happy if the story ends at the proper point in time. After the happy ending there can still be more tragedy and pain waiting for any character. Cuse and Lindeloff, The Powers That Be, (TPTB) say that LOST will end as it was supposed to end, whatever that means. One thing is for sure it won’t be a happy ending for all of our characters, I don’t think it can. We can always make believe though, that’s what fairy tales ask us to do anyway.

This weeks installment of our fairy tale begins as many other episodes have, with an eye opening. This time the eye belongs to Desmond Hume. Zoe begins to explain things to Desmond. Widmore finishes explaining and Desmond doesn’t like the idea of being back on the island. Widmore tells Des the same thing Eloise Hawking said to him back at the Lighthouse station that the island isn’t done with him yet. Widmore tells Zoe to begin the practice run of their experiment. Seamus is running the experiment and doesn't seem to be doing a very good job of it. He sends “Simmons” down to check on some loose contacts on the generator or some such nonsense. That translates into someone should get Simmons a red shirt to put on before he goes. The bunny named Angstrom is a reference to Harold C. "Rabbit" Angstrom who is the main character in five of John Updike’s novels. Rabbit, Run; Rabbit Redux; Rabbit is Rich; Rabbit at Rest; Rabbit Remembered. The novels follow the theme of life, death, and rebirth. Inside of the chamber, Simmons finds the problem and fixes it which really turns on the juice to the big copper looking donuts. Simmons gets fried and Desmond arrives with Widmore just in time to see the smoke still coming off of the dead body.

Widmore apologizes and tells Des that he hates to do this to him. Yeah right. After it is all over Widmore tells Des that he will ask him to make a small sacrifice. Desmond, obviously angry with Widmore, asks him what he knows about sacrifice. Widmore tells Des that his son died there for the sake of the island. He adds that Penny hates him and he has never seen his grandson. He tells Des the same thing he told Jin about everyone that they care about being gone. They lock Desmond inside of the world’s biggest MRI machine and turn it on. Widmore explains that Des was able to survive a catastrophic electromagnetic event (Swan hatch implosion) and he will need him to be able to do it again or they all will die. Seamus pauses when it is time to put the power to full so Widmore does it for him. The power from the toroidal coils (big copper donuts) engulfs Desmond and we get a little more of an idea of what really happened to Desmond when he turned the fail safe key. Looked painful. It seemed to me he was being broken down into molecules or something like that. And then a flash to white.

As we were floating through the clouds I thought Desmond was going to be a new smoke monster. That would have been super cool but he wasn’t. We see ATL Desmond standing in LAX with his mirrored reflection in an Oceanic flight board. Hurley tells Des that the luggage will be on carousel 4 (but then he is shown getting his luggage from carousel 2, how silly are the continuity cops on this show). Desmond meets Claire as he gets his bags. He helps her with her bags and offers her a ride. She thanks him but says she is meeting someone. As the two part ways Desmond tells her she will have a boy. Don’t read too much into this, Des doesn’t know know he is just guessing after all he has a 50-50 chance people. Outside of the airport, George Minkowski is waiting for Desmond. We remember him as the communications guy on the freighter who was time jumping during The Constant. Desmond tells George, the limo driver in this reality, to take him to the office. Desmond isn’t married and he is all business. He turns down George’s offer of some female companionship. George refers to Des as “the bosses right hand man”.

At the office, Des sees his boss who is Charles Widmore. The two embrace and are happy to see each other.
A very different relationship between these two than we are used to. Desmond admires a sail boat that resembles the one he took to the island in the main time line while Widmore argues with someone over the phone. Did you spot the painting on the wall with the scales? It looks just like the scales in the cave that has the names on the ceiling. Widmore mentions his son is a musician and tells Des he is going to perform with a rock group named Drive Shaft at a charity event. He tells Des about Charlie being arrested and tells him that if he doesn’t get Drive Shaft to the party his wife will destroy him. Des agrees to “baby sit” for Charles. Widmore makes a point of telling Desmond that he is a blessed man to not have any attachments. Almost seems like Widmore is trying to convince Desmond of this. Could Widmore be aware of the different realities? Widmore pours two glasses of MacCutcheon’s whiskey and this time Desmond is worthy of the 60 year old scotch. Widmore says that nothing is too good for him.

We see another mirrored reflection in the flash sideways as Desmond sees himself in the glass of the airport police station door. Charlie seems to have a death wish (or knows he can’t die, or wouldn’t care if he did) as he crosses the street in front of traffic and makes his way to a bar. Desmond joins him and I like the sign above the bar that read “Exceptional Island Colors”. Charlie asks Des if he is happy. Des says he is but Charlie disagrees. Des says that he has a great life. Charlie asks him if he has ever been in love. Desmond says he has been in love 1000’s of time. Charlie says that Des has never really been in love or at least not the kind of love he means. Charlie says that he saw what love looks like on the plane back from Sydney. Des says that they were on the same plane so maybe he saw her too. Charlie says that he didn’t and goes on to explain about how he ended up in the bathroom of flight 815 choking on a baggie of heroin. As he neared death he saw a beautiful blond woman. He seems to describe Claire and says that he knows her and they were together, they were always together Charlie says. A feeling of love came over him but it was ended when Jack revived him. Charlie says that he saw “the truth”. Desmond disagrees and says that that wasn’t the truth. The truth, Des says, is that Charlie has a choice. Charlie can continue drinking and destroy his musical career or he can go with him to the charity event. He tells Charlie that if he goes to the party Charlie will be owed a favor by Charles Widmore who is one of the most powerful men in all of LA. Charlie says that it isn’t really much of a choice. This sounds similar to what UnLocke says to his people when he offers them the choice to join him.

The two drive through LA as we hear “You All Everybody” play on the radio. Charlie tells Des he feels sorry for him. Des acts like he is happy and think he has it all but Des really doesn’t Charlie says. Desmond asks “Why, because none of this exists?”. Now Charlie offers Desmond a choice. He can either see what Charlie has been talking about or he can get out of the car. Before Desmond can make a choice Charlie turns the wheel sharply to the right. The car crashes into the water. Desmond tries to free Charlie from the car but has to go up for some air. He returns and as he is trying to open Charlies door, Charlie wakes up and raises his left hand to the window and Des flashes. He sees Not Penny’s Boat written on the palm of Charlies hand from the OTL (I have since changed to calling it the original time line now not the main time line). Des sees the moment of Charlies death in the Looking Glass station. This time it is different however as Des is able to save Charlie from drowning as the two make it to safety.

After Desmond gets patched up at the hospital the doctor lady asks him if he has had any hallucinations. Desmond says that he might have had some. She says his CAT scan was inconclusive so he will be getting an MRI. Desmond wants to find Charlie. The doctor tells him he isn’t going anywhere until they find out what is going on inside of Desmond’s brain. The attendant in the MRI room asks Desmond the same questions about metal and keys and such as they did in the OTL before turning on the coils. Desmond puts Widmore down as an emergency contact as he again says he has no family or friends. The attendant mentions “the button” which is also a key element in Desmond episode. This time it is a panic button and unlike when Des was on the island the attendant doesn’t want Desmond to push the button this time. When the MRI machine is turned on Desmond sees scenes from his life with Penny from the OTL. He also sees the birth of their son. Desmond pushes the button and gets out of the MRI. He says he needs to find the man he came into the hospital with.

Desmond goes to a nurses’ station and asks about Charlies whereabouts. The nurse says that she cannot give out any information. Jack comes by to retrieve a chart and Desmond sees him. Desmond says that he knows Jack from flight 815 and Jack says he remembers Desmond also. So I guess Desmond was really there on 815 back in “LA X”. Des asks Jack for help finding Charlie. Why was Jack surprised to hear that someone from their plane was now in the same hospital Jack was working in? That seemed like an odd question to me. Charlie comes out of a room and runs down the hallway. He shoves a cart into Jack as Desmond gives chase. Desmond catches up to Charlie and asks him why he is running and why he tried to kill him. Charlie says there is nobody in the hospital that can help him and he isn’t trying to kill Desmond. He is trying to show Desmond something. Desmond says he wants to see Charlies hands which of course do not have the writing on them. Charlie knows Desmond has seen something as Desmond asks him who Penny is. Charlie tells Desmond he isn’t going to go to the party because “none of this matters”. As Charlie leaves, he tells Desmond to stop worrying about him and to try and find Penny.

Desmond tells Widmore that Charlie got away and that the concert is off. Widmore says that Desmond will be the one to tell Mrs. Widmore that it is “only a bloody concert”. George wishes Desmond good luck as he goes off to meet Mrs. Widmore who is Eloise Hawking in the OTL. Desmond introduces himself and she recognizes him immediately it seems. She tries very hard to make Desmond think they haven’t met before. Desmond doesn’t remember meeting Eloise in the past and maybe I should add “yet” at the end of that sentence. It’s a little tongue in cheek when she says “it’s about time” that they meet. Des tells her that Drive Shaft won’t be making it to the concert and she blows it off by saying "whatever happened, happened". There is that line again! Des thanks Eloise and as he is leaving he hears mention of a Penny Milton who will be attending the event “solo”. Desmond asks to see the list but Eloise is now there and says he may not see the list. Just an observation, but doesn’t Eloise’s brooch look a little like the mark that the Others tattooed onto Juliette’s back? Desmond tells her he just wants to see one name on the list. Eloise tells him to come with her as the two go to a more private area. She clears the room and tells Desmond that she wants him to stop. She says that someone has changed his way of thinking and it is wrong. She calls it a “serious violation”. She says that whatever he is looking for he needs to stop looking for it. Des asks her if she knows what he is looking for. She tells him she doesn’t know why he is looking for anything because he has the perfect life. She says Des has attained what he wanted more than anything - Charles Widmore's approval. Desmond asks again why he can’t see the list. Eloise tells him that he isn’t ready to see the list.

Desmond goes back to the limo and asks George if there is alcohol inside. George says “That bad, huh?” but says that there is whatever he needs inside of the limo. George seems to be the new Matthew Abbadon as I think George is in the loop now. Since George died in the OTL he knows stuff in the ATL. That’s how it seems to work at least. But it would also seem that just being in close proximity to people you knew in the OTL can be enough to set off memories. Des tells George to just drive after he asks Des “Where to?”. Before they pull away someone knocks on the window. We see the reflection of Daniel before Desmond lowers the window. We know by now that mirrors reflect the truth just like we know unconsciousness allows for messages to pass through the different realities. Seeing as how a lot of this happens when it’s raining or when people are under water, than water acts as a catalyst for some of this as well. Daniel introduces himself (with Widmore for a last name not Faraday) and tells Desmond they have to talk.

Desmond apologizes for not being able to get Drive Shaft to play at the concert. Daniel asks Desmond if he believes in love at first sight. Daniel tells Desmond that he saw a girl in a museum. She was eating a chocolate bar and we know he is describing Charlotte when he mentions the blue eyes and the red hair. He says that as soon as he saw her he knew he already loved her. That was when things got weird. He says that after he saw her he woke up and wrote in his notebook. Daniel in the OTL always wanted to be a musician but was forced to be a physicist he actually gets his wish this time. Seeing Charlotte though, has awoken the physicist buried somewhere deep inside of Daniel. So much so that he has done some nocturnal note taking. He wrote about “real space” and “imaginary time”. Desmond asks what it means and Daniel tells him he has no idea since he is a musician. His friend, who is a math wiz, told Daniel that it is quantum mechanics. The equations are so advance that they had to be written by someone who had been studying physics their entire life. Daniel continues by saying to imagine that something catastrophic is about to happen and the only way to stop it was by releasing a huge amount of energy. Sort of like setting off an nuclear bomb. Where does he get these ideas? At least he is consistent. Daniel asks Des what if this wasn’t meant to be their lives. They could all have had other lives but for some reason they changed things. Desmond asks Daniel if he wants to set off a nuclear bomb. Daniel says he doesn’t because he thinks he might already have. Desmond says it doesn’t have anything to do with him. Daniel asks him why he was asking his mother about someone named Penny. Daniel says Desmond has felt it and that it has happened to him too. Desmond says he doesn’t know what he felt. Daniel says he felt love. Desmond says he doesn’t know who Penny is, where she is, or if she even exists. Desmond says she is an idea. Daniel says Penny is his half sister and he knows exactly where and when he can find her.

Desmond arrives at the stadium and sees Penny running a tour de stade like he saw Jack doing in the OTL. I almost expected to see Penny trip and twist her ankle. In the ATL, Penny’s last name is Milton which could be a reference to John Milton who is the author of Paradise Lost which is a 17th Century poem that deals with themes of the Fall of Man: the temptation of Adam and Eve by the fallen angel Satan and their expulsion from the Garden of Eden. It further touches on fate and predestination. Back to our story; Penny greets Desmond and he asks her if she is Penny. Desmond introduces himself and says “hi”. Penny laughs and also says “hi” as the two shake hands.

This causes Desmond to wake up back in the OTL. He made it through the experiment just fine. Desmond asks how long he was out. Widmore says it was just a few second. Widmore helps him back to his feet and says that Desmond’s talent is vital. Desmond cuts him off saying he understands. He asks Widmore about doing whatever it is he is supposed to do that is so important. Desmond asks Charles when do they start.

Zoe asks Desmond what happened to him remarking that he was beating Widmore up twenty minutes ago and now he is working with him. Desmond says a lot can happen in twenty minutes. Zoe comments that the machine has fried his brain. Desmond just smiles at her as he asks; “Did it?”. Sayid drops in on the group which is good because I feared he might have been getting a little rusty, it's been awhile since we have seen Sayid snap a neck or two. But maybe he's getting a little soft because I can only say for sure that he killed one of the guys. I think Seamus will be okay and he lets Zoe go. Sayid tells Desmond that those people are very dangerous. Sayid says they need to go and he doesn’t have time to explain. Desmond is very agreeable and tells Sayid to lead the way. Sayid seems surprised at just how agreeable Desmond is. Sayid can’t believe just how easy Desmond is going to make this job.

Desmond wakes up back in the ATL with Penny. He fainted as the two shook hands. Another example of one version of a character regaining consciousness as another version looses it. Penny laughs and comments that she must have had quite an effect on Desmond. Desmond laughs in agreement. She asks if they have met before but Desmond says that if they had they would have remembered it. Desmond asks her out for coffee. Penny says she is a sweaty mess and Des reminds her that he just passed out in front of her. She agrees to meet him for coffee in an hour.

Desmond goes back to the limo and George asks him if he found what he was looking for. Desmond says he did. They are heading to the corner of Melrose and Sweetzer streets. On that corner, it is interesting to note, that there isn’t a coffee shop but rather an antique store. An antique store was where Desmond first met Eloise. By the way, the name of the antique store that is on the corner of Melrose and Sweetzer in our reality is “Thanks For The Memories”. Nice coincidence. George asks if there is anything else he needs him to do for him (almost like he knows there is). Desmond asks George to get him the flight manifest from Oceanic 815 he needs to know who the passengers are because he wants to show them something.

So what is the violation that Eloise speaks of? I think Charlie causes the violation when he doesn’t allow Desmond to make a decision. He turns the steering wheel before Desmond can make a choice. Eloise says that someone has changed the way Desmond sees things. It’s obvious he has. Let’s look at this reality a little differently. This universe was created by whatever created it with whatever the people in the universe that was being created wanted. Or at least what they thought they wanted. Whoever or whatever created this alternate reality thought Desmond wanted Widmore’s approval over anything else. What he really wanted was Penny. He only wanted Widmore’s approval because he loved Penny. Penny was always his ultimate goal. Perhaps love is a wild card. Earlier I said death trumps everything but maybe love does. If this is true and it is the MIB that created this alternate reality maybe this is what the scanning and reading was all for. This could mean that Smokey does have a flaw but we already thought that. MIB wanted to create a utopia for our characters from the OTL. In the ATL he gave them what he thinks they want. All the while he has not allowed them glimpses of their island time lines and has used happiness to cover up their past memories. Love was never put into the equation. Now, thanks to drug addict Charlie Pace, it's in there.

Daniel squashes the idea that the ATL is the real one but he seems to reference that the OTL might not be exactly right either. Daniel says that they all had another life but something changed it. The bomb changed it or was it changed before that? Dan knows he existed in another time-line that shouldn’t be. He even knows he set off a bomb in that time-line which he didn’t but he did put Jack onto the path that led to it. Maybe there is another time-line where Dan actually did set of the bomb himself. And maybe it wasn’t the bomb that changed things, what if it was the fail-safe key being turned?

So what does this point to? It could mean that the ATL in the “LA X” reality is the right time line. Or will be eventually. Desmond might be taking steps to make it so. He has already found Penny and is looking for the other passengers of flight 815. He wants to gather them together so he can show them something. That something will be their alternate selves and I think I'm starting to figure out what the whispers are in the OTL. It's our characters commenting on what they are seeing in the OTL from the ATL. Desmond has his memories of the ATL intact with him in the OTL now. Somehow Desmond knows that weather it be in this life or another things will eventually turn out alright. But what is the sacrifice he will have to make? Guess that is the monkey wrench in the plan or the fly in the ointment, if you will. Happily ever after? Maybe, even if it has to be in another life, brotha.
